Why work for us

We believe in the spirit of Ubuntu: “I am because we are”. Teamwork, integrity and impact sit at the heart of everything we do. At Ubuntu Freelancers, you are not just part of a team; you are part of something bigger.

We primarily support mental health professionals, therapy practices and wellness providers around the world, and we are looking for South African freelancers who are warm, organised and serious about making a difference in clients’ lives. If you thrive on helping others, love a well-structured system and know how to juggle multiple tasks with professionalism and heart, you will fit right in.

Here, you will enjoy the flexibility of remote work, the stability of ongoing client relationships and the opportunity to grow in roles that value both autonomy and collaboration.

We offer:

No micromanaging; just meaningful work, practical support and real recognition.

Whether you are an experienced assistant, a multitasking admin professional, or someone who simply gets things done, we will help you land a virtual role that fits your skills and lifestyle, and help you build a long-term remote career.

Roles we recruit for

Mental Health and Therapy Virtual Assistants

Are you calm, compassionate and highly organised

Our mental health virtual assistants support therapists, psychologists and allied health professionals with intake, scheduling, inbox management and client communication. You will work with practice management systems, EHR tools and structured processes to keep client journeys running smoothly. If you love systems, structure and making people’s lives easier, this could be your ideal role.

Billing and Admin Specialists

Do you have an eye for detail and a love of order

Our billing and admin specialists help practices stay on top of insurance claims, benefit verification, billing queries and day-to-day admin. You will play a vital behind-the-scenes role in keeping clinics organised, compliant and on schedule.

Marketing and Practice Growth Support

Are you creative, tech-savvy and comfortable with digital tools

Our marketing and practice growth freelancers support therapy practices with newsletters, content calendars, social media scheduling, simple Canva design and blog drafts. You will help clinicians build visibility and connect with their audiences without the overwhelm of doing it alone.

FAQ

Have a question? No problem!

We recruit for both part-time and full-time freelance roles. It depends on your availability and capacity. In your application, tell us how many hours you would ideally like to work per week and we will aim to match you with opportunities that suit your schedule.

Some clients require set availability, for example UK or US working hours. Others are more flexible and focus on output rather than exact times. During the matching process, we will align client requirements with your preferences wherever possible.

Yes. We are looking for highly skilled professionals with strong backgrounds in administration, customer service, operations, billing or marketing. You should be confident in your area of expertise and comfortable working independently. Remote experience is helpful but not essential; we provide training on virtual tools and best practice through the Ubuntu Academy.

  • Skills testing and personality profiling
  • At least two video interviews
  • Reference and background checks

Successful candidates complete onboarding and training through the Ubuntu Academy, which covers HIPAA and POPIA awareness, client communication, digital tools and our internal workflows.

Yes. You will need a quiet, professional space with stable internet and a reliable backup power plan. Load shedding or connectivity issues cannot be a recurring reason for missed deadlines. A laptop or desktop computer, headphones and an uncluttered work area are essential.

It depends. Some freelancers are placed with a single long-term client, while others support multiple clients depending on their availability, skills and the type of work they enjoy. Our goal is to place you in a structure that is sustainable and supportive over the long term.

Yes. At this stage, we only recruit freelancers who are based in South Africa. Our mission is to promote local talent and connect South African professionals to global remote opportunities.

Therapy and wellness practices are our main niche. We occasionally place freelancers with other businesses, usually via referral, if they are aligned with our mission and values. If you are comfortable supporting psychologists, counsellors and allied health providers, you will feel at home in our community.

We believe in people-first outsourcing. Unlike traditional agencies, we focus on long-term, values-aligned matches. With Ubuntu Freelancers you receive:

  • A personalised onboarding experience
  • Ongoing support from our internal team
  • Access to the Ubuntu Academy for professional development
  • Thoughtful matching with clients whose work and values align with yours
